Qiu Yong (Chinese: 邱勇; pinyin: Qiū Yŏng; born 28 July 1964) is the current President of Tsinghua University.[1][2][3][4] Qiu is a member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences.

Biography

Qiu was born and grew up (raised) in Rong County, Sichuan. He entered Tsinghua University in September 1983, majoring in chemistry and chemical engineering, where he graduated in July 1988. He received a PhD in 1994, and subsequently joined the faculty.[1]

Qiu once served as Director of the Department of Chemistry of Tsinghua University, Deputy Dean of the School of Sciences, Tsinghua University. He served as Deputy President of Tsinghua University in December 2009, and five years later promoted to the President position.[5]

He was honored as a Distinguished Young Scholar by the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars (Chinese: 国家杰出青年科学基金) in 2003.

He was appointed a Chang Jiang Scholar by the Chinese Ministry of Education in 2006.

He was elected a fellow of the Chinese Academy of Sciences in 2013.
