Ralph Simon
Ralph Simon, FRSA is a business executive, first in the music industry, and now in the mobile entertainment industry.
Simon co-founded the independent Zomba Group of music companies (now a subsidiary of Sony Music Entertainment) with Clive Calder in the 1970s growing it over two decades to become the leading independent record label=, music publishing company and producer management company of its era. Zomba's record label, Jive Records signed the American musical artists the Backstreet Boys, *NSYNC & [(Justin Timberlake)), and also, Britney Spears and Janet Jackson.[1] In the mid-90s, he was Executive Vice President of Capitol Records and Blue Note Records in Hollywood and started EMI Music's global New Media division.[2] He started Yourmobile (later renamed Moviso), the first ring tone company in the Americas, Europe, UK, Australia and Africa, in 1997.[3] In 2001, Simon co-founded YourMobile Group with Anthony Stonefield, Hilton Rosenthal Shane Dewing & Cliff Brigden - a wireless entertainment company.[4] that became the first commercial ring tone company in North America, Europe, Africa & Australasia.
Simon is the founder and Chief Executive of Mobilium Global Ltd (based in London, England, Los Angeles, Mumbai, with associate offices in Helsinki, Finland}.[3][1][5] Mobilium Global relentlessly searches the world for the very latest innovation and devcelopments in all aspects of mobile, specialising in Mobile media, mobile content, mobile health & mobile wellness and also advises international companies on best strategic usage of mobile devices, platforms and the gamut of "positive disruption".
In 2013, he was appointed Global Ambassador for the CTIA – The Wireless Association. CTIA is the Washington, DC-based wireless trade body & organization driving wireless device certification, policy and all aspects of the wireless and mobile industry innovation and development.[6] Simon is also a popular public speaker and in-demand moderator moderator at major international conferences and conventions around the world focussing on mobile innovation and start-ups. His moderating and speaking have taken him all over the world, speaking in many countries in Europe, Morocco, Russia, India, Vienna, Austria, Sweden Estonia, Finland, Armenia Eastern Europe, North America and various countries in Africa - Ghana, Ethiopia, South Africa, Kenya. He has also been a regular speaker and moderator in the USA & Canada, officiating since 2008 at the annual Canadian Music Week conferences and also the Milken Global Conference in Los Angeles, Musexpo in Los Angeles and Start Up in New Orleans.[7] He is on the board of Hungama Digital Media Entertainment.[6]
SImon is an active member of the African Leadership Network, and in 2013 received the special Ambassador Award from the African Leadership Network. He also regularly acts as a high-level curator of major international innovation and mobile conferences and summits and is known for his extensive experience and vision for where the mobile industry is going next.
He was raised in Johannesburg, South Africa where he went to the University of the Witwatersrand, and left South Africa in 1995 and settled in London. In 1990 he relocated to San Francisco, California and then in 1993 relocated to Los Angeles where he lived for over a decade. He constantly travels the world seeking out the latest innovation and start-up individuals and companies acting as a seed investor. in 2009 he established Mobilium Africa, which went on to become the company that brought the first-ever mobile health delivery network to Africa. In addition to his role as Chief Executive of the Mobilium Global companies, he has recently become an advisor of the UK's first-ever professional basketball league, known as the Premier Basketball League UK.
