Rampart High School is a public high school in Colorado Springs, Colorado, United States. Established in 1983, It is Academy School District 20's second high school. It was awarded the National School of Excellence award in 1989. It is one of three high schools in Colorado Springs with the International Baccalaureate Programme, the other two being Discovery Canyon Campus and Palmer High School. Its mascot is the Ram.
Academics
Rampart was awarded the National School of Excellence Award in 1989. Its high academic standards progressed when Rampart began offering the International Baccalaureate Programme to students, in addition to Advanced Placement (AP) courses. Rampart was one of 40 Colorado public high schools to make the 2013 Newsweek's list of top 2,000 public high schools. Rampart had the highest ranking in the Pikes Peak region, coming in at No. 479.
Band
Rampart High School has a well known music program consisting of a multi-time state championship marching band (2005 and 2006) as well as three concert band, two jazz bands, and a string orchestra programs. The concert bands started attending the CBA state championships for concert band in 2007. The jazz bands attend many different jazz festivals throughout the school year, and have been doing so for many years. During the 2007-2008 school year, the band moved up in class from 4A to 5A. In addition, Rampart's Winter Guard has won the RMCGA State championship four times.
Rivalries
Since Pine Creek High School was established, the Rams have had a fierce rivalry with the Eagles. This applies to all sports as they are in the same conference, but most notably basketball, football, and volleyball. The rivalry peaked on February 22, 2013, when during a conference basketball game there were numerous technical fouls (including one on the Rampart fan section). The Pine Creeks coach was ejected and after Pine Creek won the game, there was a minor brawl between the two student sections after the game.
State champions
In 1998 the Rampart High football team went undefeated en route to a 14-0 finish and a State Championship in the Class 4A, defeating Sierra High School 35-14 at Memorial Stadium in Colorado Springs. Future NFL player Dexter Wynn was a part of all five Ram scores, with two catches for touchdowns, a pass for a touchdown and two special teams scores. He also picked off a pass in the last three minutes of the game to seal the win for the Rams.
In 1996 the Rampart Basketball team won the 4A state championship (5A was the highest classiication), Rampart 57, Alameda 51. In 1987 the Rampart Boys Basketball Team won the 3A Colorado State Basketball Championship with an undefeated 24-0 record. (this is when the 4A classification was the highest classification.) The 1987 Rampart Boys Basketball was selected to the Colorado Sports Hall of Fame in 2013. This Hall of Fame includes such outstanding athletes such as Goose Gossage (NY Yankees all-star), Coach Fisher DeBerry (Air Force Academy), Peggy Fleming (Olympic Gold Medalist Figure Skating) and several teams that includes the 1980 Olympic Ice Hockey Team.
In 2015 the Rampart Boys Basketball was selected by the Gazette Telegraph (readers) as the Greatest High School TEAM of all-time. This team won this award competing against thousands of Colorado Springs sports teams.
