Randy Myers (golf trainer)
Randy Myers is a golf fitness instructor. He has been particularly interested in establishing a connection between physical fitness and the golf swing. He has pioneered the study of biomechanics, exercise physiology, core strengthening, and performance enhancement as they are related to golf.[1]
Education
In May 1992, Myers graduated from Pennsylvania State University, United States, with a Masters degree in Leisure Studies. There, he wrote a thesis entitled “A Strength Training and Flexibility Program for Recreational Golfers,”.[2]{ June 20, 2015}
Professional career
Randy Myers has developed training programs for individuals interested in the game during his tenure at PGA National Resort & Spa. He served as Director of Fitness and Personal Training there from 1992 to June 2005 and helped the resort earn awards, such as “Best Resort Fitness Center.” In addition, PGA National’s Health and Racquet Club received two “Nova 7” awards, which recognized the facility’s design and exercise programs.[3]
Upon stepping down from his job PGA National Resort & Spa, Randy Myers became Director of Fitness for Sea Island Resorts, a position he currently holds. One of his responsibilities at Sea Island, named the “top golf resort” in North America by Golf Digest Magazine, is contributing to The Golf Learning Center, where Myers works with colleagues to enhance performance on the course by focusing on physical and mental fitness.
According to Myers, “‘Players cannot expect to overcome golf’s many challenges without peak physical fitness and mental focus.’” In his work at The Golf Learning Center, Myers concentrates on flexibility as an integral component of injury prevention, and therefore, creates unique stretching routines for guests to use during their stay at the resort and to continue upon returning home. He devised The Randy Myers Golf Stretching Pole, the only such training aid approved by the United States Golf Association for players to carry in their golf bags.[4] Beyond the stretching plan, Myers provides a fitness program designed to improve the player’s game. He creates this program based on his “fitness handicap,” a form of assessment Myers himself developed to judge the individual’s fitness in terms of the physical necessities and desires for the sport.
