Rhythm & Reason is a 2015 studio album by American folk musician Bhi Bhiman.[1][2] Before the release, the lead single "Moving to Brussels" was released through Speakeasy on March 24, 2015.[3] The album was released on May 18, 2015, with guest artists such as Rhiannon Giddens.[4] The Guardian wrote that "his songs pair tuneful, sturdy, all-American melodies with often bleak and humorous lyrics about immigration, history, race and global politics."[5]

History

Production and release

His single "Moving to Brussels" was released through Speakeasy on March 24, 2015.[3] He was interviewed on air by NPR about his upcoming album on May 15, 2015.[6] His full-length album Rhythm & Reason was released through BooCoo Music and Thirty Tigers[3] on May 18, 2015, with tracks such as "Moving to Brussels" and "Up in Arms" featuring vocalist Rhiannon Giddens.[4]

American Songwriter gave the album 3.5/5 stars and a positive review, praising both the songwriting and the additions by producer and multi-instrumentalist Sam Kassirer, who "frames Bhiman’s songs and voice in sympathetic settings with subtle use of horns, marimba and vibraphone that accentuate the singer’s vocal and lyrical gifts without drowning him in good intentions."[7] Irish Times gave it 3/5 and a positive review,[8] The Guardian gave it 3/5 and a positive review as well, stating "he has a no-nonsense, gutsy vocal style and a batch of inventive songs," and "his songs pair tuneful, sturdy, all-American melodies with often bleak and humorous lyrics about immigration, history, race and global politics."[5]
