Rob Font (born June 25, 1987) is a Puerto Rican American mixed martial artist who competes in the Bantamweight division of the Ultimate Fighting Championship.
Mixed martial arts career
A native of Central Massachusetts, Font began training as an amateur in 2009 and made his professional debut in December 2011.[3]
He compiled a record of 10 - 1, competing for several regional promotions across his native New England before signing with the UFC in the spring of 2014.[3][4]
Ultimate Fighting Championship
Font made his promotional debut against George Roop on July 5, 2014 at UFC 175.[5] He won the fight via knockout in the first round.[6] He also earned a Performance of the Night bonus.[7]
For his next bout, Font was expected to face Chris Beal on September 5, 2014 at UFC Fight Night 50.[8] However, Font pulled out of the bout citing an injury.[9]
Font was expected to face Mitch Gagnon on October 4, 2014 at UFC Fight Night 54.[10] Subsequently, Font pulled out of the fight the week of the event and was replaced by Roman Salazar.[11]
Font was expected to face Chris Williams on January 17, 2016 at UFC Fight Night 81.[12] Subsequently, Williams was forced out of the fight due to injury and replaced by Joey Gomez.[13] He won the fight by TKO in the second round.[14]
Font next faced John Lineker on May 14, 2016 at UFC 198.[15] He lost the fight via unanimous decision.[16]
Font was expected to face Ian Entwistle on October 8, 2016 at UFC 204.[17] However on the day prior to the event, Entwistle fell ill during the weight cutting process and the bout was scrapped.[18]
Font was expected to face Alejandro Pérez on December 3, 2016 at The Ultimate Fighter 24 Finale.[19] However, Perez pulled out of the fight on November 24. [20] He was replaced by promotional newcomer Matt Schnell.[21]
