Rodions Kurucs (born February 5, 1998 in Cēsis) is a Latvian professional basketball player who plays as small forward for FC Barcelona B, reserve team of FC Barcelona from Spain.
Career
Youth career
In March 2014, he signed a multi-year contract with VEF Rīga[1] after having played for the club's youth academy in Latvia's second men's division. He made his debut on VEF's first team during the 2014-15 campaign, logging his first minutes in Latvia's top-tier LBL,[2] in the VTB United League,[3] and in the Eurocup.[4] He played at the Adidas Next Generation Tournament in 2015.[5]
In July 2015, Kurucs agreed a four-year deal with Spanish powerhouse FC Barcelona.[6]
Professional career
In 2016, after becoming 18 years old, Kurucs joined the FC Barcelona B squad for playing the LEB Oro, the second tier in the Spanish league system.
International career
He played for the Latvian U16 national team at the 2014 Baltic Sea Cup and at the 2014 European Championship. He played a crucial role in helping Latvia win silver at the European Championship, averaging 13.4 points, 5.9 rebounds, 1.9 assists, 1.4 steals as well as 1.1 blocked shots per contest,[7] en route to a spot on the All-Tournament Team[8] and Eurobasket.com All-European Championships U16 First Team honors.[9]
