Ruben Meerman mostly known as The Surfing Scientist is a Scientist, Australian Television Science Presenter and Public Speaker also commonly performing science demonstrations for school kids. The Surfing Scientist frequently appearing on ABC's children's television show Rollercoater until it ended in 2010. Ruben is a proud supporter of free education of literacy, numeracy and science for all, he was educated on the free Australian public education himself.[1] The Surfing Scientist often performs scientific demonstrations for school children, usually using liquid nitrogen in his demonstrations. He is currently working on research on the science of weight loss and researching where does the fat go when you lose weight.[3]
Early Life
Ruben Meerman was born in Vlissingen, Netherlands and moved to Bundaberg Queensland, Australia 8 days before turning nine(1980).[1]
Education
As a child in Australia Ruben attended Thabeban State School and later on Kepnock State High School.[1] He studied a bachelor of physics in Queensland University of Technology[4]
Work
Ruben Meerman is best known for his work as The Surfing Scientist in encouraging school children to be excited about science as well as numeracy and literacy. He began his career working at Laserdyne Technologies at the Gold Coast as a physicist by making thin film optical coatings for lasers for use in medical, industrial and military applications.[5]
