Sacred Heart Choir, Chapel of the Sacred Heart of Jesus
The Sacred Heart Choir is a Malaysian Gregorian chant schola and vocal ensemble consisting of boys and men from the Chapel of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, Sungai Buloh, Selangor, Malaysia.
Formed in 2006 when the initial members grouped together to sing the Gregorian propers of the Roman Catholic Mass, they also specialize in performing a cappella sacred vocal music written during the Renaissance by composers from all over Europe. It was encouraged by the then pastor, Rev. Fr. Davide Pagliarani of the Society of St. Pius X, who was then appointed the District Superior of Italy.[1]
They sing regularly every week when Sunday sung Masses (Missa Cantata) are held in the Chapel of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, Sungai Buloh, Selangor, Malaysia and during major feast days such as Christmas and the Easter Triduum.
Members have undergone voice training under the direction of Lisa Ho, Choral Director of the mixed amateur chamber choir Cantus Musicus.
Among the sacred polyphonic pieces that have been performed by the choir are motets by Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina, Antonio Lotti, Orlande de Lassus, Maurice Duruflé, William Byrd, Jacques Arcadelt, and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.
