Sagara Subdivision is a Subdivision in the Karnataka state of India. Sagara Subdivision lies in the Western Ghats Range. Sagara city is its administrative centre. Jog Falls is a major tourist attraction. As of 2011 Sagara Subdivision has a population of 763044. There are four taluks: Sagara,Hosanagar, Shikaripur, Sorab.
Also there is a Proposal of creating Sagar District out of Shimoga District for betterment of Administration and development of Sagara Division.This includes Sagar, Hosanagar, Shikaripur, and Sorab talukas.
Geography
Sagara Subdivision lies in a malnad region of Karnataka and it is also known as the 'Heart of Sahyadri' or 'Sahyadriya Hrudaya' in Kannada. The Subdivision is landlocked and bounded by Shimoga Subdivision, Sirsi Subdivision, Bhatkal Subdivision.
The peak Kodachadri Hill is at an altitude of 1343 metres above the sea level. And it is the highest point in this Subdivision.The two major rivers that flow through this Subdivision are Sharavati and Varada.
Climate
As the Subdivision lies in the Malnad region, rainy season occurs from June to October.The average annual temperature of Sagara Subdivision is around 26 °C. The average temperature has increased substantially over the years.
Economy
Arecanut is the main crop which is grown in this subdivision. Foundry, agriculture and animal husbandry are the major contributors to the economy of Sagara Subdivision. The Crops cultivated in this Subsivision are rice; arecanut; cotton; maize; oil seeds; cashewnut; pepper; chili; ginger; paddy; ragi. Karnataka is the largest producer of arecanut in India, the majority of which is cultivated in the Sagara Subsivision. The farmers have cultivated crops like vanilla and jatropha

Culture
Heritage and architecture
Keladi and Ikkeri were the capital cities during the time of Keladi Nayakas. There are three temples in Keldi. Rameshvara temple, Veerbhadreshvara temple, and Parvati temple. The Aghoreshvara temple is in Ikkeri.

Ninasam
Nilakanteshwara natya seva sangha is located in a village called Heggodu. It was established by K. V. Subbanna in 1958.[1] Ninasam is a drama institute. The headquarters is in Heggodu. It has a library, rehearsal hall, guesthouse and theater.[2] Shivarama Karantha rangamandira is an auditorium for Ninasam. It was opened in 1972.[3] Ninasam started a 'Theatre-in-education' project called Shalaranga with the help from the government of India during 1991-1993.[4] Ford foundation has volunteered in establishing a rural theatre and film culture project called Janaspandana. Ninasam chitrasamaja is an organisation to encourage film culture and to hold film festivals.

Sagara subdivision consists of places which have historical importance and natural beauty. One can find these places with the help of milestones and hoardings which are usually in Kannada and English
Nature Tourism
The world famous Jog Falls is in Sagar taluk. It is approximately 30 km by National Highway 206.Private and Government bus will be available in all time for the tourist.
Honnemaradu is situated on the banks of the backwaters of the Sharavati river. A big water mass extends up to the Chakra dam. It is about 35 km from Sagara city towards Jog and 10 km from Talaguppa. Indian Institute For Adventure Applications is a training school situated here which uses adventure as a platform for learning.
Holebaagilu is situated on the banks of the Sharavati River about 30 km from Sagar. One has to take a diversion from B. H. Road towards Ikkeri Road to get there. The Sharavati backwaters of Linganamakki dam has submerged acres of land. It is a place of natural beauty. It is in Kolur Grama Panchayat limits. One has to take a flatboat to get across the backwaters to reach the other side where Sigandooru is.
Sharavati Wildlife Sanctuary is in Sagar Taluk, Karnataka. It is 350 km from Bangalore. Located near Jog Falls, the sanctuary covers the Sharavati Valley Region, near the western border of Karnataka. It is spread over an area of 431 km. The sanctuary is nourished by the Sharavati River. Linganamakki reservoir spread over an area of 128.7 km is a part of this sanctuary.
Linganamakki dam is built across the Sharavathi river and is 6 km from Jog Falls in Sagara taluk.[5] It is the main feeder reservoir for the Mahatma Gandhi hydro-electric project. It has two power generating units of 27.5 MW
Dabbe Falls is located near Hosagadde in Sagar taluk. On the road from Sagara to Bhatkal, Hosagadde lies about 20 km from the town of Kargal. From Hosagadde a walk of 6–8 km into the forest leads to Dabbe Falls.
- Hidlamane Falls
it is near Nittur in Hosanagara Taluk. The only way to reach it is by trekking.[5]
- Kodachadri hills
Kodachadri hill is located at a distance of 70 km from Sagara city. The hill is 1343 m[6] above sea level.
which was earlier called Bidarur, was the last capital of the Keladi kings and later taken by Hyder Ali during 1763.[7]
- Pavitra Vana and helicopters pad
This place is where Children's playground, ancient trees are situated. it gives a kind of re-freshness during holidays. The available nearest helicopterspad just intron of this same. it also subjects to lovers' spot.
Temple Tourism
The Marikamba Temple is located in Sagara City, in the Indian state of Karnataka. It features the image of the goddess Marikamba, a form of Durga or Parvati. The temple was built in the center of the city during the reign of Venkatappa Nayak who ruled over Keladi and Ikkeri kingdom during the 16th century. Marikamba was the family deity of the Nayaka dynasty.
A Shiva temple of historical importance is located 6 km from the city. One has to take a diversion at Sorab Road. There is a museum containing old manuscripts written during the Keladi dynasty.
Sigandooru is a holy place of Goddess Chaudeshwari. A large temple of Goddess Chaudeshwari is here. This Goddess is a highly believed deity in Sagar and the surrounding taluks as a protector against theft and robbery. Coupons for entry will be distributed on first-come, first-served basis.
- Varadapura (Varadahalli/Vaddalli)
This place is 6 km from the city where one has to take a diversion from Jog Road soon after the end of the city limits. It is famous for the samadhi of His Holiness Sri Sridhara Swami who was among the great saints of 20th century.
This place is of historic importance due to the presence of a temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. One has to take a diversion at B. H. Road and travel 6 km.
This is another historically important place with a temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. It is 8 km from the city and one has to travel along Sorab Road for 6 km and take a diversion.
- Chandragutti Temple
This temple is near to Soraba, which was built by Banavasi Kadambas. The Renukamba temple is located in this village.[8]
- Varadamoola,Sagara
Varadamoola is 6 km from Sagara City. River Varada originates at this place. Varada flows through the town of Banavasi before joining Tungabhadra.
