Saint Eigrad

St Eugrad's Church, Llaneugrad.

Saint Eigrad was a 6th-century Pre-congregational saint of North Wales[1] and Patron Saint of Llaneigrad.[2]

Life

He was a son of king Caw of Strathclyde, a Brother of Saints Gildas,[3] and Samson of York and was a student of Saint Illtud[4][5]

In 605AD[6] he founded a church in Llaneugrad, Anglesey[7] and his brother St Saint Gallgo, founded a church nearby.[8] Today the two churches form the one parish.

Memorial

His feast day is 6 January,[9] and is remembered in the villages of Egreas and Llaneigrad on Anglesey.[10]
