Sam Kilburn
Sam Kilburn (16 October 1868 – 25 September 1940) was an English first-class cricketer, who played one match for Yorkshire County Cricket Club, against Essex at Bradford Park Avenue, in 1896.[1] He also played for the Second XI in 1899 against Durham in the Minor Counties Championship.
Born in Dalton Fold, Huddersfield, Yorkshire, England, Kilburn was a right-handed batsman, who scored 8 in his only innings before being bowled by Walter Mead, and did not bowl or take a catch.[1] He was not alone in failing with the bat, Yorkshire were bowled out for 80 in their first innings, with John Tunniclife scoring 47 of them, as Frederick Bull claimed 8 for 44. Ted Wainwright hit back for the White Rose county, taking 8 for 34, as Essex were skittled for 55 in return and Yorkshire, batting last on an easing pitch, ran out winners by seven wickets.
Kilburn played for Yorkshire in a non first-class match against Durham in 1896, scoring 8 as Yorkshire won by an innings at 166 runs, Schofield Haigh taking 14 for 50 in the match.
Kilburn died in September 1940 in Crosland Moor, Huddersfield.
