Samir Palnitkar
Samir Palnitkar (born December 1967) is a technology entrepreneur, engineer, author who has founded several successful technology companies and written technology books.
Professional career
Samir started his career at Sun Microsystems in 1992 where he developed multiple UltraSparc microprocessor chips. Samir was at Sun until 1995.
In 1995, he started I2P, Inc., a company developing semiconductor building blocks such as PCI, USB, 1394 for large corporations such as National Semiconductor, Philips, Hitachi, Nvidia and many others. I2P was acquired by Lattice Semiconductor.
In 1998, infected by the internet bug, Samir started Obongo.com[1] with his long-time friend Jai Rawat. Obongo.com was an internet company specializing in online identity management across multiple websites. Obongo.com was funded by Sequoia Capital and was acquired by America Online in 2001.
Then, he started Ingot Systems, Inc.[2] a semiconductor company specializing in high speed memory interfaces. Ingot was acquired by Virage Logic.
In 2003, Samir started AirTight Networks (currently Mojo Networks), a solutions provider in Wi-Fi security technology that developed the first Wireless intrusion prevention system.[3] AirTight Networks was funded by renowned venture capitalists such as Walden International, Granite Ventures, CMEA, Trident Capital and others.[4]
In 2009, Samir again got together with his old friend Jai Rawat and started ShopSocially, a social shopping website that enables users to ask shopping questions and share their purchases with friends. ShopSocially launched its site for public beta testing in May 2010.[5]
Publications
Samir Palnitkar is the author of two books on semiconductor design.
In 1996, Pearson Education (then known as Prentice Hall) published the first edition of his book Verilog HDL - A Guide to Digital Design and Synthesis. A second edition of the book was published in 2003. The book has sold more than 50,000 copies worldwide and is considered a textbook for semiconductor chip design in both the industry and the academia.
In 2003, Pearson Education published Samir's second book Design Verification with E. E is a programming language used for verification of semiconductor chips.
Education
Samir Palnitkar got a degree in electrical engineering from Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur in 1990. Then, he moved to the United States and got a Masters in Computer Engineering from University of Washington, Seattle in 1992. Later, he moved to Silicon Valley, California and got an MBA in International Business from San Jose State University
