Sara Shamma (Arabic: سارة شما) (born November 26, 1975) is a Syrian artist and painter.
Biography
Sara Shamma was born in 1975, and is a Syrian painter. In 2010 she was selected as the 'Celebrity Partner' artist to the United Nations' World Food Programme (WFP).[1]
Career and works
Shamma was selected as one of the prize winners for the 2004 BP Portrait Award.[2] She was subsequently invited to participate in a number of solo and group exhibitions around the world, including Q at The Royal College of Art, 2013, The Royal Society of Portrait Painters' Annual Exhibition at The Mall Galleries in 2013,[3] and Nord Art[4] in Büdelsdorf, Germany in 2012.
Shamma's subject matter of choice is the human form. Although she lived and worked through the Syrian Civil War, (which was reflected in her art) she chooses to focus less on the political aspects of war and suffering, and more on the notion of humanity in a wider sense.[5]
