Shelby High School is a high school in Shelby, Michigan. It is part of the Shelby Public School district.
Building
The school is located on State Street in Shelby. It opened in 1998 during the 1998–99 School year. The former high school is now the current middle school. The former middle school was torn down in 2001. The high school features a 565-seat auditorium and also a rather large gymnasium. Another important feature are the computers. The school features six computer labs, and every classroom has at least one computer.
Academics
Shelby High School offers a broad range of classes. From its award winning band program, to Advanced Placement classes, there is something for everyone. The music programs offered include Band, Choir, guitar class, as well as others. Classes the math department offers include Algebra, Geometry, Trigonometry, and AP Calculus. The Social Studies department offers Government/Economics, World Studies, and American Studies. English 9–12, College English, AP English, and Senior Composition are taught in the English department. The Science Department offers many classes including Chemistry, Biology, Anatomy/Physiology, and Physics. The school is also home to an extensive art department that offers many classes including Design, Basic Art, and Sculpture Art. Another important department in the school is the foreign language department. Classes offered by them include Spanish, Spanish II, and World Cultures.
For students that need higher level classes, Dual Enrollment is available. This can be done with many colleges including West Shore Community College, Muskegon Community College, Baker College, and Grand Rapids Community College.
