Sheldon Neeley

Sheldon Neeley is currently serving his first term in the Michigan House of Representatives, representing the 34th District, which includes most of the city of Flint. Neeley serves on the following House committees – Health Policy, Local Government and Transportation and Infrastructure. He is a Democrat.

Neeley grew up in Flint, attending Flint Northern High School before enrolling at Delta College, where he earned an associate's degree. He then received a bachelor's degree in communication from Saginaw Valley State University.

Prior to being elected as state representative, Neeley was a Flint City Councilman for nine years, serving the Sixth Ward, the most diverse area — economically and racially — in the city. He was the first African-American councilman to represent that ward.

Beyond his work as a councilman, Neeley is president of the local Nabet-CWA union and works as a broadcast engineer for WJRT-12 TV. He has also worked with the Civil Service Commission and is director of Flint City Junior Golf, founded by his father Sam Neeley. Neeley worked for 10 years in Flint Community Schools as a counselor.

As a state representative, Neeley is focused on public safety in communities, public education and building the economy. He will hold bi-monthly tours for groups of youths to develop governmental engagement.

Neeley currently lives in Flint with his wife of 22 years, Cynthia. He has two daughters, Taylor and Morgan, who are both in college.
