Shelford Girls' Grammar is an independent, Anglican, day school for girls, located in Caulfield, a suburb of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia.
Established in 1898, the school currently caters for approximately 600 students from pre-school to year 12.
According to the Herald Sun, Shelford was the fourth best performing school in the 2006 Victorian Certificate of Education.[2]
Shelford is a member of Girls Sport Victoria (GSV),[3] and the Junior School Heads Association of Australia (JSHAA).
New initiatives
The School motto, Quaerite Primo Regnum Dei (seek ye first the Kingdom of God) is well known to all past and current students. The word Quaerite is an important one for Shelford. Seek ye, or search, investigate, discover and find out, is what 21st century education is all about. The Pastoral Care Program and Religious Education Program from P-12 is aptly named the Quaerite Program. In this Program students are given an opportunity to investigate a variety of things related to their spiritual, emotional, social, physical and academic development.
House system
As with most Australian schools, Shelford uses a house system through which students participate in inter-house competitions. The four school houses are:
- Langley - Green and Yellow
- Lloyd - Purple
- Blundell - Red
- Thomas - Blue
Notable alumnae
- Brigitte Duclos - Television and radio presenter; current co-host of a breakfast radio program with Anthony "Lehmo" Lehmann on GOLD104.3.
- Olympia Valance - Neighbours actor
