The Shop Boyz are an Atlanta-based rap group best known for their 2007 hit single "Party Like a Rockstar." The group is composed of Demetrius "Meany" Hardin, Richard "Fat" Stephens and Rasheed "Sheed" Hightower.[1]
Career
After signing with Universal Republic Records, Shop Boyz began to record their first and only album, Rockstar Mentality, which featured rock-influenced hip-hop.[2] The album's lead single, "Party Like a Rockstar," was released in May 2007 and achieved commercial success, reaching number two on the US Billboard Hot 100 and becoming the highest-selling ringtone of 2007.[3] Rockstar Mentality was released on June 19, 2007, debuting at #11 on the US Billboard 200 but receiving a poor critical and commercial reception, selling fewer than 200,000 copies to date.[4] The followup single, "They Like Me", performed poorly, peaking at #98. The group was eventually dropped by Universal.
In August 2008, Shop Boyz released "Up Thru There" as the lead single from their untitled second studio album that was never released. Despite this, the track managed to chart within the lower region of US R&B charts. Shop Boyz went on to release a mixtape in 2009 entitled Forever Shop, releasing the single "Up Thru There" on the mixtape, along with the collaborative album, Community Service, Vol.2, with rapper C-Murder, on March 23, 2010, which featured the track. The group independently released an EP titled Back 2 Finish What We Started, on April 4, 2011.
On March 14, 2015, Shop Boyz released their second mixtape, Gift And A Curse.
