"Shotgun Wedding" is the fifth episode of season one of the BBC technological thriller, Bugs. The original airdate was 29 April 1995.
Synopsis
When prominent Italian politicians Anna Fabrizi and Alberto Corelli arrive in London for a conference on anti-corruption, an assassin called Starkey prepares to strike. William Swift, Anna's secret fiancé, hires the team to provide security, much to the irritation of SSD who have been assigned to protect the politicians. The team launch a plan to trap the killer, but it goes horribly wrong.[1]
In the ensuing confusion, the SSD shoot and kill Starkey and the assassin's employers mistake Ed as Starkey. They kidnap him at gunpoint, and order him to kill Anna Fabrizi at the next possible chance he gets or the bomb jacket they have just put on him will explode. Roz and Beckett discover where the next assassination place will be, Anna Fabrizi and William Swft's wedding.
While Roz disarms the bomb, Beckett gets Anna and William out of the building. It is at this point Anna learns that it was Alberto Corelli who was trying to kill her all along. It was his plan to have Anna killed before the election, continue the party under her success but not to follow through with her policies of anti-corruption as he himself had ties to corrupt politicians.
