Sindi Dlathu
Sindi Dlathu born Sindiswa Dlathu is a South African actress in SABC2 soap Muvhango,She plays Thandaza.
Career
Sindi's acting career came by chance, she entered a competition where she mimed an Aretha Franklin cover of The Beatles song "Let It Be" and won at age 11. She also made it to the Shell Road Fame finals where she was required to use her own voice and made it to the finals, at about 12 years of age. Sindi gives the credit to Nomsa who was involved with the Mahotella Queens at the time and groomed her for show business. It was the same lady who took her to audition for Mlamuli Mbili' s Sup dan iran ! At the time she was oblivious to the fact that they were auditioning for a US blockbuster, she thought she was going to be taught to sing and dance. Her parents received a call letting them know that their daughter had made the auditions, and the rest as they say is show business history.
At 14 she was cast as the lead role’s understudy in the stage version of Sarafina!, playing to packed houses. In the screen version, she worked alongside Whoopi Goldberg and was commissioned as an assistant choreographer to Michael Peters. In 1988 with the second cast led by Seipati Sothoane whom Sindi understudied. When the play went on tour, she stayed behind and did Township fever in 1989-1990 touring the US with the play for a year. Five (including Sindi) of the cast were handpicked at a jazz festival in Montreal, Canada Randy Crawford was one of the performers she was so impressed she asked them to stay behind and perform with her. She has also sung backing vocals with Billy Ocean.
Sindi then returned to school after four years of being with Mbongeni Ngema's committed artists. She completed her matric in 1996, and then went back to performing arts, stage plays in 1997 she was in the FNB Vita Award winning Game, where she performed with Mary Twala, Abigail Kubheka, and Nomhle Nkonyeni.
Her first TV role was in Khululeka, she did a series with them, she then went on to do Soul City in season
Personal life
Sindi Dlathu is married, and is also working on her album. She would like to do more international work, she has ambition to save the world, stop the wars, xenophobia and HIV. she is married to Okielant Nkosi for ninteen years.
