Matthieu Le Carpentier (born 22 September 1981 in Hérouville-Saint-Clair, Lower Normandy), better known by his stage name Skread ([ˈskʁɛd]), is a French record producer, songwriter and musician. He has composed and produced for a great number of artists, notably Orelsan, Diam's, Booba, Rohff, Sinik and Nessbeal among others. He has worked on projects of young singer Isleym, rappers El Matador, Brasco and rap band Nysay. He is also co-founder of the record label 7th Magnitude, to which Orelsan and Nessbeal are signed, and has also appeared on many of Orelsan's music videos.
Career
Le Carpentier was born in Hérouville-Saint-Clair, a suburb in the city of Caen, France. He studied at École de Management de Normandie, where in 2000, he met French rappers Orelsan and Gringe. He composed for Orelsan, and the three co-operated to form Casseurs Flowters (officially made up of Orelsan and Gringe).[2]
He has been active since 2004, notably with the release of Panthéon from Booba with the tracks "Tallac" and "Baby", the latter featuring Nessbeal. In 2005, he released a compilation album entitled Instrus, containing instrumentals of popular songs he has produced. In 2006, he co-produced with Kilomaitre and Elyo the track "La Boulette" from Diam's. The song won Best francophone Song" for 2006 during the NRJ Music Awards.
On 8 July 2013, he released Instrus, Vol. 2, the second in the Instrus series, showcasing his productions for Orelsan and Nessbeal.[3]
7th Magnitude
In 2006, Skread established the French hip hop and R&B label 7th Magnitude with Ablaye, his friend and a member of Orelsan's entourage. The label has been instrumental in launching Orelsan, with Skread producing and releasing Perdu d'avance and the hugely successful Le chant des sirènes. The label has also released Nessbeal's NE2S and Sélection naturelle, as well as singer Isleym's debut studio album Ou ça nous mène.
