Ali was the fourth of the Rashidun (or The Rightly Guided Caliphs) of Sunni Islam and the first Imam of Shia Muslims. He was a cousin of the Islamic prophet Muhammad as well as Muhammad's son-in-law. He had several children by Fatimah, Muhammad's daughter, as well as children by other wives.
