The Identity card is the document issued compulsorily to every South African citizen upon attaining 16 years of age. The only exemption are South African citizens domiciled abroad. If they wish to apply for one, then they may apply at their nearest Consulate or Embassy abroad.
The Identity Card is issued by South African Department of Home Affairs.
