SD 17 begins at an intersection with SD 44 in Lennox. The highway continues north and runs just west of Tea before entering Minnehaha County. Just north of the Minnehaha county line lies Wildwater West, the largest waterpark in South Dakota. About two miles north of the waterpark, SD 17 meets its northern terminus at an intersection with SD 42 just west of Sioux Falls.[1]
The route of SD 17 is defined in South Dakota Codified Laws § 31-4-140.[2]
History
South Dakota Highway 17 was implemented around 1929. While the northern alignment has not changed, the highway originally extended southward from Lennox to an intersection with South Dakota Highway 46 near Centerville. This southern segment was decommissioned in 1994.
