Sphere is a British animated short film created in 2013 by Aardman Animations for the University of Bristol and the Elizabeth Blackwell Institute.[1] It was directed by Richard Webber.
Production
Sphere was created in preparation for the launch of the Elizabeth Blackwell Institute.[2] According to the EPSRC:
As part of the Elizabeth Blackwell Institute launch in July 2013, an audience was shown a presentation of SPHERE [which] involved a panel discussion as well as a question and answer session with the audience.[3]
Sphere was uploaded to YouTube via the UniversityOfBristol channel on 4 September 2013,[4] and uploaded to the aardmancommercials channel six days later.
Plot
Sphere "involved asking members of the general public for their views on the technologies being developed in a project called SPHERE (Sensor Platform for HEalthcare in a Residential Environment), and what the outcomes might mean for them".[2] As a result, "The creatures within the animation voiced opinions which reflected public reaction to SPHERE".[3]
