Hiromi Ozaki (born 1985), better known by her pseudonym Sputniko!, is a British/Japanese artist and designer.[1][2] Sputniko!'s work falls within the practice of critical design. She invents devices and creates songs and music videos which include the devices in their diegeses.[3] Although they serve as theatrical props, the devices are fully realized prototypes built in collaboration with scientists.[1] Her work focuses on the social, cultural, and ethical implications of new technologies, often through the lens of feminism and gender issues.[4][5] Her style is a mixture of British black humor and Japanese pop.[3] She is also an Assistant Professor of Media Arts and Sciences of the MIT Media Lab.[6]

Sputniko! was featured in the exhibition Talk to Me at The Museum of Modern Art in New York. She has also exhibited at the Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo, the Aomori Museum of Art, and the Third Art & Science International Exhibition in Beijing. She won the YouTube Japan Video Award in the technology category in 2010, and in 2013 was named one of Vogue Japan's Women of the Year.[7][8]
