The school has 2 gymnasiums (1 dually used as a cafeteria, a gymnasium and an auditorium), 10 washrooms (5 male, 5 female), 4 change rooms, a chapel, and a library. A large, three story extension was built onto the school in late 2004, though several portables still exist on school grounds. The swimming pool was added in 2009. Annual events
The Canley Cup is an annual event held by St Peter Catholic High school in order to acquire canned goods to donate to the Cumberland food bank. During the 2008 campaign, the school raised over 52,000 cans. This was enough to fill three food banks. The competition concludes with the entire school carrying the cans on a 7 kilometer walk to the food bank. Afterwards, a barbecue is held and a "Canley Cabaret" is held by the teachers.
Every year the grade 8 students of St Peter's go on a trip to Toronto. They are given the opportunity to visit many of the fun and exciting attraction the city of Toronto has to offer including: the Toronto Zoo, the CN tower, Wonderland, Gretzky's Sports Bar, and the Hockey Hall of Fame.
St Pete's puts on two different plays every year, one by the grade 7 and 8 students and the other by the high school students. The High School plays are known for being, more often than not, a musical. The high school musical is led by drama/music teacher Bernie Leger, who in 2012 won the Diamond Jubilee award for excellence and dedication in teaching.[2] Past plays that the school has performed have been: Grease (2008), Beauty and the Beast (2009), Little Shop of Horrors (2010), Phantom of the Opera (2011), West Side Story (2012), Footloose (2013), Shrek: The Musical (2014), and Tarzan: The Stage Musical (2015). Tarzan was Legers 20th play at the school. The plays always include several dance numbers which use careful choreography, and the plays also always have strong chorus singers. Several of the sets for the plays are made and painted by the school's art students Performances are held during the last weekend of February, usually from the Wednesday until the Saturday.
St. Peter's show choir (Treble Threat) also used to perform annually at the local "choir fest," which is a gathering of numerous Christian choirs to sing and celebrate the Christmas season. The St Pete's choir is cherished for its dedication and youthfulness, and its often given a standing ovation. The St Pete's choir also has many other annual events formerly including the Show Choir Canada Competition, which is held at the Sony Center in Toronto. In 2012, St Pete's performed and won a national bronze medal, only losing to choirs from two of the audition-based performing art schools located in Toronto.[3]
Every year in June, St. Peter's Grade 12 Graduating Class has their commencement at the Ottawa Convention Centre (Shaw Centre).
