Steve Brown (born 2 June 1981) is a British Wheelchair Rugby athlete and former Captain of the Great Britain National Wheelchair Rugby Team.[1][2]

He led the team in Wheelchair rugby at the 2012 Summer Paralympics.

Brown broke his neck in a fall from a balcony in Cologne in 2005. While rehabilitating at Stoke Mandeville Hospital he watched a wheelchair rugby match and was inspired to take up the sport.[3][4]

Following wins at the British National Championships in 2006 and the IWRF European Championships in 2007, Brown narrowly missed selection for the 2008 Beijing Paralympic Games - but was honoured to lead the Olympic and Paralympic Parade of the Heroes through London on the team’s return.[5]

Brown is one of the most recognised faces in the sport, having featured in numerous television broadcasts including Channel 4’s ‘Inside Incredible Athletes’.[6]

He is a Sky Sports Scholar,[7] a Sky Sports 'Living for Sport' mentor[8] and a roving reporter for Sky Sports Game Changers TV show.[9][10]

Brown joined the ITV team for the live broadcast of the BT World Wheelchair Rugby Challenge (WWRC). He co-presented from the courtside studio as a pundit alongside Martin Bayfield, the former England and British Lions player. The event was held in October 2015 at the Copper Box Arena on the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park.[11]

Although Brown retired from international sport after the London 2012 games, he plays for London Wheelchair Rugby Club and is Lead Coach at Canterbury Wheelchair Rugby Club. In 2015 he was asked to return to the international stage and began training for the 2016 Summer Paralympics in Rio. Unfortunately an injury at the end of that year forced him to pull away from training.

In July 2016 it was announced that Brown would join the Channel 4 Paralympics presenting team in Rio.[12]
