Strathmore railway station is located on the Craigieburn line in Victoria, Australia. It serves the northern Melbourne suburb of Essendon, opening on 28 October 1890 as North Essendon, and was renamed Strathmore on 1 March 1955.[1]
The railway past the site of Strathmore station was opened in 1872, as part of the North East railway to Wodonga.[2]
Located at the point where the original Sydney Road (now Pascoe Vale Road) crossed the railway on the level, it was one of the worst traffic bottlenecks in Melbourne, until grade separation works commenced in 1961. The first two lanes opened in 1963, with two more opening in 1964.[2]
