Surupsingh Hirya Naik

Surupsingh Hirya Naik is a member of the 13th Maharashtra Legislative Assembly. He represents the Nawapur Assembly Constituency. He belongs to the Indian National Congress.[1] In 2006, Naik then a Maharashtra cabinet minister, was sentenced to jail in a contempt of court case related to licenses for saw mills near Tansa sanctuary even though it was illegal to do so.[2] The Surupsingh Naik Ayurvedic Mahavidyalaya, a medical college in Dhule district, is named after him.[3] He has represented the constituency since 1978, losing only in 2009.[4]
