Susan Foster

Susan Hillary Foster (born April 21) is an American jewelry designer, businesswoman, television host, and fashion correspondent.

Early life and career

Susan Foster was born in Queens, New York and raised in East Hampton, Long Island, New York. As a teenager, Foster attended East Hampton High School; she then studied at Hunter College on the Upper East Side of New York City, majoring in Communications and adopting a minor in Theater Studies.

After graduating college, Foster first discovered jewelry design in Los Angeles, California.[1] Foster pursued designing herself, which led to her first collection consisting of silver wire, feathers and semi-precious stones and other natural materials. She presented her collection to popular Los Angeles jewelry boutiques which carried her designs.[2]

When Foster’s jewelry sold out, she was encouraged to create a second collection and continued in her career in jewelry design. Within two years of hand making jewelry, Foster’s collections were found in over thirty stores in the United States. After her third year, national U.S. department store Neiman Marcus requested to pick up her label. Foster then began using finer materials to produce higher end and more expensive jewelry.

Further Education

Foster attended the Gemology Institute of America, where she studied diamonds, gemstones, synthetic diamonds, gemstone classification, pearls, and pearl grading. Foster then completed her education by working as an apprentice under European goldsmiths.[3] Bergdorf Goodman picked up her line in 2006. In 2008, Foster’s 22-carat (4.4 g) gold opal tree ring was chosen for a coffee table book, 500 Gemstone Jewels.[4]

Company

Between 2003 and 2007, Foster opened four jewelry “pop-up stores". In 2008, Foster opened her first solely-owned retail store in Brentwood, California.[5]

Foster has appeared as a jewelry expert and featured designer on E! Entertainment Television, Good Day LA, and Extra. Her jewelry designs have been seen on the covers of international magazines such as Elle, InStyle, Modern Bride and Glamour, and her pieces have been routinely spotted on Entourage, Sex and the City, and Curb Your Enthusiasm.[1]
