Sylvia Ji

Sylvia Ji is an American painter producing notable work since 2005. Her paintings depict almost exclusively the female form, using it to explore themes of beauty, decay, and lust. She works with acrylic on wood panels, painting detailed and complex subject matter.

Biography

Born in 1982, the painter comes from an artistic family. Her father was a painter and her mother favoured drawing. She attended San Francisco's Academy of Art University, graduating in 2005, earning her BFA in Illustration. Ji had her first successful solo show while in her last year at the Academy of Art. She currently resides in Los Angeles, CA and sells her work through the Corey Helford Gallery.

Paintings

Ji has a large body of work all focusing on themes of femininity, lust, and passion combined with a darker side. She creates detailed and complex paintings using acrylic paint on wooden panels. Her work has been praised for being hauntingly beautiful and highly charged. Her paintings have been used as imagery on commercially sold items such as snow boards, skateboards, teacups, pillows, wine bottles etc.
