T. J. Martin is an American documentary film maker. A graduate of Roosevelt High School and Fairhaven College at Western Washington University,[1] he is best known for co-directing Undefeated (2011), a documentary about a high school football team, which won the Academy Award for Best Documentary on February 26, 2012.[2] He is, notably, the first African-American to win this award. He is the son of Seattle musician Tina Bell, lead singer of Bam Bam.
On March 5, 2012, he gave his first interview to writer and fellow filmmaker Lathleen Ade-Brown for The Washington Post's The Root and stated the honor is so unexpected "I'm not used to people saying that; it doesn't sound like they are talking about me," he told The Root.
