Talkdesk
Talkdesk is a cloud-based call center software provider. Its headquarters are in San Francisco, CA and they also have an office in Lisbon, Portugal.
Talkdesk CEO Tiago Paiva founded the company in 2011 and raised $450,000 from 500 Startups and an angel investor that year. Talkdesk launched at TechCrunch Disrupt in New York in May, 2012.[1] In August 2014, the company raised an additional $3.15 million with Storm Ventures leading the Seed Round.[2] In 2015, Talkdesk raised a $21 Million Series A from DFJ, Salesforce Ventures and Storm Ventures.[3][4] In 2015, Talkdesk is cash flow positive, has quadrupled its revenue since their Seed Round and is on a hypergrowth trajectory.[5][6][7][8]
History
Towards the end of 2011, Talkdesk founder and CEO Tiago Paiva conceptualized Talkdesk after working at Procter and Gamble and becoming frustrated from having to look up caller information in multiple systems each time a customer called.
So, he entered a contest hosted by Twilio, where the prize was a laptop, and built the first version of Talkdesk using Twilio’s API in 10 days.[9] They were selected to present at Twilio’s conference [10] and after winning were invited to join 500 Startup’s third batch.[11] Since then, Talkdesk has grown to over 140 employees and boast over 1,000 customers worldwide.[12]
On October 27, 2015, Talkdesk announced the launch of their Talkstart Program. The Talkstart Program [13] provides technology startups with free Talkdesk call center software licenses to enable them to establish a foundation of excellent phone-based customer support and sales.
Technology
Talkdesk leverages WebRTC technology and Twilio telephony.[14] They use Backbone.js for the frontend and Ruby-related technologies (Ruby, Ruby on Rails, Sinatra, Sidekiq, etc.) for the backend.[15] Talkdesk also takes advantage of some NoSQL solutions such as MongoDB, Redis for storage and caching solutions, as well as RabbitMQ for inter-application messaging and leverage internal Hypermedia APIs.[16]
