Taron David Egerton (born 10 November 1989) is a Welsh actor.[2][3] He is known for his role as Dennis "Asbo" Severs in the British television series The Smoke[4] and Gary "Eggsy" Unwin[5] in Kingsman: The Secret Service. He appeared in the British drama film Testament of Youth, as Edward Brittain. He also played Mad Teddy in the film Legend, starring Tom Hardy, and starred as Eddie "The Eagle" Edwards in the film Eddie the Eagle.

His upcoming films are Sing, Billionaire Boys Club, Kingsman: The Golden Circle, and Robin Hood: Origins.

Early life

Egerton was born in Birkenhead, Merseyside, England, to parents from Liverpool.[6] His grandmother is Welsh.[6] His first name is a variation of "Taran", which is Welsh for "thunder".[7] His father and family ran a bed-and-breakfast and his mother works in social services.[7] He was raised around Wirral, England, but his family moved to the island of Anglesey, in Wales. He then moved to Llanfairpwllgwyngyll, where he spent most of his childhood, and moved with his family to Aberystwyth, Wales, when he was twelve. Egerton considers himself Welsh "through and through", and speaks conversational Welsh.[6][8][9] He attended Ysgol Penglais comprehensive school. Egerton is an RADA-trained actor who graduated with a BA (Hons) Acting in 2012.[10] He is a tenor through music and dance, specialising in stage combat, and his interests include literature and travel.

Career

Egerton made his acting debut in 2011 with a small role in two episodes of the ITV series Lewis as Liam Jay.[5] Later, he was added to the main cast of the Sky1 series The Smoke.[4]

Egerton played Gary "Eggsy" Unwin, the protégé of Harry Hart (Colin Firth), in Matthew Vaughn's film Kingsman: The Secret Service.[5] Egerton co-starred in Testament of Youth, based on the life of Vera Brittain, which starred Alicia Vikander and Kit Harington as the leads[11] and appeared in the two-part episode "The Ramblin' Boy" in the seventh series of Lewis as Liam Jay.

In 2015, it was announced Egerton would be starring opposite Ansel Elgort and Kevin Spacey in a remake of Billionaire Boys Club.[12]

He was named one of GQ's 50 best-dressed British men in 2015 and in 2016.[13]
