Timo Meier (born 8 October 1996) is a Swiss professional ice hockey player who currently plays for the San Jose Barracuda, the AHL affiliate of the San Jose Sharks of the National Hockey League (NHL).[1] At the 2015 NHL Entry Draft, he was selected by the Sharks with the ninth overall pick.
Playing career
In the 2012–13 season, Meier played in his native Switzerland at the Elite Jr. A level with the Rapperswil-Jona Lakers. Meier was selected 12th overall by the Halifax Mooseheads in the 2013 CHL Import Draft,[2] and has played with the Mooseheads since the 2013–14 QMJHL season. He was named captain of the Mooseheads for the 2015–16 QMJHL season a few weeks before the start of the season.
Meier was selected ninth overall by the San Jose Sharks in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft. On 8 July 2015, the Sharks signed Meier to a three-year entry level contract.[3]
On January 6, 2016 Meier was traded to the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies in exchange for a first round pick in 2017, second round pick in 2017 and a fourth round pick in 2018.[4]
