Thomas "Tommy" Ware (16 October 1885 – 1 May 1915) was an English professional football goalkeeper who appeared in the Football League for Bristol City.[1]
Personal life
Prior to being bought out of the army to become a professional footballer, Ware was a musician in the Cameronians (Scottish Rifles).[3][4] Though discharged, he remained on the reserve list.[3] He combined his football career with a factory job in Broadmead.[3] Ware re-enlisted in the British Army upon the outbreak of the First World War in 1914 and joined the Royal Field Artillery.[3] He died of wounds at a hospital in Poperinge on 1 May 1915.[3] He was buried in Poperinge Old Military Cemetery.[2]
