The Oregon State Treasurer is a constitutional officer within the executive branch of the government of the U.S. state of Oregon, elected by statewide vote to serve a four-year term. As chief financial officer for the state, the office holder heads the Oregon State Treasury, and with the Governor and Secretary of State, serves on the Land Board. The office was held from January 5, 2009 to March 7, 2010 by Ben Westlund, a Democrat, who died in office.[1][2][3] On March 9, 2010, Oregon governor Ted Kulongoski appointed Multnomah County chairman Ted Wheeler to fill the vacancy until a special election on November 2, 2010 to fill the remaining two years of Westlund's term.[4][5]
