Tyler Johnston (born December 31, 1987 in Jeannette, Pennsylvania) is an American soccer player currently playing for AFC Cleveland.
Career
College and amateur
Johnston attended Southview High School in Lorain, Ohio where he was a 4 year varsity starter setting several records along the way. He scored 9 goals with 4 assists as a freshman, 13 goals with 5 assists as a sophomore, 29 goals with 11 assists as a junior and 35 goals and 14 assists as a senior. During his senior season he led the team to only the second win in the OHSAA tournament,[1] while earning the second of consecutive LCSCA Division I Player of the Year Awards. Tyler holds the Lorain City Schools record for goals in a career along with the top two spots for goals in a season, he is tied for first in assists in a game, he is also second in career assists, assists in a season, and goals in a game.[2] Upon graduation he began his college soccer career at Ohio Northern University. In his freshman year, he appeared in 24 games, scoring 5 goals and earning 1 assist [3] while helping the Polar Bears earn the Ohio Athletic Conference Regular Season Championship & Tournament Championship. In 2007, his sophomore year, he had 22 appearances and scored 7 goals with 6 assists.[4] He then transferred to the University of Akron, where he did not play. He transferred again the next year, to Lorain County Community College, where he finished his college career with the club team.
Professional
Johnston joined the Ohio Vortex on November 29, 2010,[5] where he made his semi-professional debut in a loss to the Cincinnati Kings.
He appeared in 8 more games, scoring 5 goals with no assists.[6]
On April 21, 2012, he signed with AFC Cleveland of the National Premier Soccer League for the 2012 season.
