Tyler Spurgeon (born April 10, 1986 in Edmonton, Alberta) is a Canadian professional ice hockey centre who is currently playing for HC TWK Innsbruck of the Austrian Hockey League (EBEL). He previously played with former rival club, EC KAC.[1] Tyler is the older brother of Jared Spurgeon, who currently plays for the Minnesota Wild.[2]
Spurgeon was drafted by the Edmonton Oilers, 242nd overall, in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft. After signing a three-year entry level contract he played with the Oilers affiliated American Hockey League teams, in Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins and later the Springfield Falcons from 2007-2009.
On October 8, 2014, Spurgeon returned to North America in signing a one-year ECHL contract with the Ontario Reign for the 2014–15 season.[3] After a brief try-out with the Adirondack Flames of the AHL, Spurgeon's tenure with the Reign was cut short as he opted to return to Europe in signing with HC Thurgau for the remainder of the season.
On May 27, 2015, Spurgeon signed to recommence his career in Austria in agreeing to a contract with HC TWK Innsbruck.[4]
