Background
The Dan McMillion Jazz Orchestra has recorded several CDs to date and this (Up Your Brass) is another recording which features big band with McMillion featured out in front of the group on trumpet. Much in the tradition of Charlie Spivak, Harry James, or Maynard Ferguson's bands, McMillion has a top flight group with name players. The list of musicians are from the Central Florida region who record on his CDs; Up Your Brass is no exception in terms of the level of band and how the CD was approached by McMillion. The arrangements are standard jazz repertiore that is very straight ahead in therm of style and musical content; the listener knows what to expect from the band and the recordings every time. "...for Dan believes that his music should have universal appeal."[3]

"...(Up Your Brass) is the fourth album we’ve heard by McMillion’s well–built Jazz Orchestra, and as before, the bar is set exceedingly high — heeding the example of his celebrated mentors, McMillion wouldn’t have it any other way. Luckily, he is able to call on battle–ready troops to carry out his marching orders and record yet another well–earned triumph."[2]
