Urica is the capital of Urica parish, 45 km southeast of the population center of Santa Inés, in Anzoátegui state in Venezuela.

Urica was founded by Spaniards in the mid-18th century on a plain bathed by the waters of the River Urica and the River Amana, surrounded by renowned Anzoátegui and became known for producing small fruit.

In this population memorable military operations took place in 1898, such as José Félix Ribas and José Francisco Bermúdez against José Tomás Boves. On 12 September 1814 he fought the battle of Curareque on 5 December the Battle of Urica, in which Boves was killed. He was buried in this village. On 27 April 1870 the Battle of Altagracia, and on 20 February 1902, the battle of the Bridge. In 1879, by disposition of the National Congress of the Republic, is created the Big State of Orient, whose capital would be Urica. This new territorial division which, at that moment, corresponded to the then-current states of Anzoátegui, Sucre and Monagas, remained valid until 1881 when it was re-named Bermúdez state, after it finally adopted the sucre as its currency.
