Ursuline College is a small, Roman Catholic liberal arts women's-focused college in Pepper Pike, Ohio, United States. It was founded in 1871 by the Ursuline Sisters of Cleveland and is one of the oldest institutions of higher education for women in the United States. Ursuline College offers a diverse spectrum of undergraduate and graduate studies within the Catholic tradition of education. The college offers 30 undergraduate, 11 graduate programs, and a Doctorate of Nursing Practice. In 2015, Ursuline College had 706 undergraduate and 530 graduate students.[1] Although Ursuline College focuses primarily on the liberal arts, it also offers courses such as nursing and business administration.
The campus is situated approximately 10 miles outside of Cleveland and 30 miles outside of Akron. Ursuline's campus is quite spacious and meticulously landscaped, featuring 12 educational buildings, including the most recently constructed Sister Diana Stano Athletic Center, the Parker Hannifin Center for the Creative Healing Arts & Sciences, and the Bishop Anthony M. Pilla Center.
In July 2013, the O'Brien Athletic Center was destroyed by a tornado that ripped through the campus. With generous donations from the community and insurance payments, a new athletic center was completed for Fall 2015. The Sister Diana Stano Athletic Center offers a fitness space overlooking the campus, a gymnasium, shower and locker rooms for visiting and home athletic teams, offices, and conference rooms. The Parker Hannifin Center for the Healing Arts and Sciences, also completed for Fall 2015 semester, provides educational equipment and classrooms for Nursing and Art Therapy students.
The Pilla Center, the main gathering space has a view of the lake, and is two stories high with windows on adjacent sides, and a luminescent stained glass window that faces the main quadrangle. It has a new dining hall, staffed by Metz Culinary Management, that offers a food court.
The college's Florence O'Donnell Wasmer Gallery is host to changing display of professional and student artwork exhibits, and remains open for public consumption Tuesday through Sunday in the afternoon.
Athletics
Ursuline College teams participate as a member of the National Collegiate Athletic Association's Division II.[2] The Arrows are a member of the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC), but used to be a member of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics' now-defunct American Mideast Conference (AMeC) until the 2011-12 season. Women's sports include basketball, bowling, cross country, golf, lacrosse, soccer, softball, swimming & diving, tennis, track & field and volleyball.
