Varatchaya "Pias" Wongteanchai (Thai: วรัชญา วงค์เทียนชัย; born 7 September 1989 in Chiang Rai) is a Thai professional tennis player.
Wongteanchai has won four singles and twenty-four doubles titles on the ITF tour in her career. On 17 June 2013, she reached her best singles ranking of world number 212. On 4 February 2013, she peaked at world number 118 in the doubles rankings.
Playing for Thailand at the Fed Cup, Wongteanchai has a win-loss record of 10-6.[1]
Wongteanchai's younger sister Varunya is also a tennis professional.
Career
In February 2012, Wongteanchai made her WTA main draw debut at her home tournament, the 2012 PTT Pattaya Open. She qualified for the main draw by defeating Hsu Wen-hsin 0–6, 7–5, 6–1 and Misa Eguchi 6–4, 6–3. She then faced top seed Vera Zvonareva in the first round but lost 6–2, 7–5. She also partnered her younger sister Varunya Wongteanchai in the doubles event, but lost in the quarterfinals.
In 2013, Wongteanchai started her year by winning a title at the 2013 Blossom Cup. This was Wongteanchai's biggest title of her career so far. She was then awarded a wildcard into the 2013 PTT Pattaya Open. She defeated Annika Beck in the first round 6–3, 6–3 and but lost to Marina Erakovic in the second round. In the doubles event Varatchaya Wongteanchai partnered her sister Varunya, in the first round they defeated the third seeds Chan Yung-jan and Chan Hao-ching, they then went on to the semifinals after defeating Irina Buryachok and Valeria Solovyeva. They then lost to Akgul Amanmuradova and Alexandra Panova in the semifinals. She then played in the qualifying event of the 2013 Roland Garros but lost to Grace Min in the first round.
