Vet Tech Institute

Vet Tech Institute (often abbreviated as VTI) is a for-profit, private career school offering associate degrees. Vet Tech Institute offers training for Veterinary Technician careers. From 2006-2016, the demand for trained veterinary technicians is expected to increase faster than the rate for all occupations (Bureau of Labor and Statistics, Occupational Outlook Handbook 2008-2009 edition). Veterinary technicians can work in animal hospitals, private veterinary offices, animal shelters, and animal research facilities.

The Vet Tech Institute has seven locations throughout the US: Pittsburgh, PA Columbus, OH Fort Wayne, IN Indianapolis, IN Houston, TX St. Louis, MO Chicago, IL

Each facility is equipped with surgical suites as well as an on-site kennel. All of the campuses house a variety of animals for students to interact with for hands on experience.

Housing

Vet Tech Institute’s admissions staff provides students with assistance in finding housing. Each campus offers a variety of options, some including on-site dorms or off campus apartments.

Program

The Vet Tech Institute provides an associate degree which can typically be completed in 18 months. The program has a full x-ray and surgical setup as well as onsite kennels. Students are educated in handling animal patients, office procedures, anesthesia, sterilization, radiology, pharmacology and other procedures. Students study under a licensed veterinarian as part of their hands-on education. A large animal practicum and externship are also included in the program.

Accreditation

The Veterinary Technician program is accredited by the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) Committee on Veterinary Technician Education and Activities (CVTEA) as a program for educating veterinary technicians. This nationally recognized accreditation enables program graduates to sit for the Veterinary Technician National Exam (VTNE) to become licensed veterinary technicians.
