VideoBlocks is a subscription-based resource for downloading stock footage, video clips, animated backgrounds.[2][3] The company also has a marketplace for buying and selling individual video footage.[4][5]
History and about
VideoBlocks was founded in 2009 by Joel Holland in Reston, Virginia.[6] As of 2016, the video library contains about 2,500,000 video clips[7][8] and about 130,000 users.[9] Around 8,000 active content creators sell videos to the site.[10] In April 2015, the site launched a stock footage marketplace for independent creators to sell their video contents. The company offers full royalties to the contributors.[11] In June 2015, the company completed a debt financing round worth 8 million dollars from North Atlantic Capital.[11] In December 2015, the company signed a deal with Discovery Communications. The deal made available around 30,000 videos owned by Discovery Communications for purchase on the VideoBlocks marketplace.[9] In January 2016, VideoBlocks assigned their Chief Marketing Officer TJ Leonard as the Chief Executive Officer while founder and CEO Joel Holland assumed the role of executive chairman.[8] On 18 April 2016, the company announced that it will add virtual reality and 360-degree video content to its stock art library.[12] In July 2016, the company released VideoBlocks Enterprise for companies, providing full access to the libraries of VideoBlocks, AudioBlocks and GraphicStock, other sister projects of the company.[13]
Subsidiaries
Two subsidiaries—GraphicStock and AudioStock are run by VideoBlocks, which also offer download services for an annual subscription. The subsidiaries do not have content marketplaces for purchasing and selling multimedia contents.[14]
