Vries is a town in the Dutch province of Drenthe. It is a part of the municipality of Tynaarlo, and lies about 8 km north of Assen.
Vries was a separate municipality until 1998, when it was merged with Eelde and Zuidlaren into a new municipality called Tynaarlo.[1]
In 2001, the town of Vries had 4002 inhabitants. The built-up area of the town was 1.6 km², and contained 1605 residences.[2] The statistical area "Vries", which also can include the surrounding countryside, has a population of around 4500.[3]
