WVLT-DT2 is the MyNetworkTV-affiliated television station in Knoxville, Tennessee. It is a digital subchannel of CBS-affiliate WVLT-TV, owned by Gray Television. Its parent station has studios on Papermill Drive (near I-40/I-75) on the city’s westside.[1]
History
WVLT-DT2 began broadcasting in 2003 as an affiliate of UPN, the United Paramount Network, and was originally branded as UPN Knoxville. It cleared the whole UPN network schedule. The original UPN affiliate in Knoxville was the now-defunct WEEE-LP, which was also a secondary affiliate of FamilyNet.
In September 2006, UPN and The WB networks ceased operations and merged to create The CW Television Network. WBXX channel 20, the original WB affiliate for Knoxville, took the CW affiliation for Knoxville. The same month, Fox Television Stations launched MyNetworkTV to give UPN and WB stations not selected for the CW another option besides going independent. WVLT-DT2 was announced as Knoxville’s MyNetworkTV affiliate beginning September 2006. Since then, it is branded as My VLT, although for the first few years of MyNetworkTV affiliation, it had a branding of My VLT 2.[2][3][4]
It began broadcasting a 720p high definition signal in Mid 2011.
Programming
Outside of the MyNetworkTV schedule, syndicated programming on WVLT-DT2 includes Mike & Molly, The Office, Extra, and Hot in Cleveland, among others. WVLT-DT2 also runs some programming shared with the main channel. Beginning in September 2016, Antenna TV programming is aired on the subchannel in the overnight hours from 1 to 8 a.m. ET.
From 2009 until 2015, Atlantic Coast Conference football and men’s basketball games syndicated by the ACC Network by Raycom Sports were broadcast on WVLT-DT2; the local rights to those games have been moved to the main subchannel, with some games shared with WBXX.
WVLT-DT2, along with the CBS-affiliated main channel of WVLT also airs all Vol TV Network content produced by the University of Tennessee athletic department’s broadcasting arm.
