Waterford Whispers News (WWN) is a popular Irish satirical news website, based in Waterford.

History

The website originated from a Facebook page set up in 2009.[1] The name is a reference to the game Chinese whispers.[2]

The site gained notoriety when one of its articles regarding a stampede in a Lidl shop was mistaken by a German magazine as genuine.[3]

In August 2015 Waterford Whispers received a cease and desist letter to take down a satirical article written about well-known Irish business magnate Denis O'Brien claiming that he was prosecuted for bribery in a parallel universe.[4]

Waterford Whispers published a book, Waterford Whispers Takes Over the World, in 2015.[5]
