Murder of Wendy Albano

Wendy Albano was an American businesswoman murdered in 2012 in a hotel room in Thailand.[1] Authorities in the U.S. got in touch with the U.S. State department eventually leading to the arrest of a suspect hiding in India years later.[1] The chief suspect was an Indian business associate who fled to India after her death.[2] One of the key pieces of evidence that made him a suspect was their known business relationship and video surveillance from the hotel.[1] U.S. Sen. Bill Nelson asked then secretary of State Hillary Clinton to help with the case.[3] Senator Nelson took steps to help India and Thailand work together to solve the crime.[4] The case made headlines in the United States and India, especially due to the involvement of a U.S. Senator and request for help from then Secretary of State Clinton.[5]

Wendy was an interior designer who had worked on the homes of many famous people and celebrities including Derek Jeter and Tino Martinez.[6] She had worked on Mr. Jeter's apartment worth 20 million USD located in Trump World Tower.[2] Her business was called Wendy Albano Interiors and she was noted for her pleasantness and sense of style.[2] She had lived in the US States of California and Florida.[7]

Wendy was found dead in February 2012 at a hotel in Bangkok, Thailand.[8] In September 2014 Indian Police arrested the chief suspect, a business associate that had befriended her on Facebook in 2010.[8] They had worked on some business deals and were reportedly working trying to import hand-made jewelry.[8] The hotel was Fraser Suites Hotel (Fraser Suites Sukhumvit) in Bangkok and one of the leads was footage that showed the suspect leaving.[9][10]

Bangkok hotels have been a popular place for murderers and some of the latest cases include Karl Slym of Tata Motors and Hollywood actor David Carradine[11] Thailand murders have become noted enough that one writer produced a book called How Not To Get Murdered In Thailand related to this issue.[12]
